The holiday season is the perfect time to share handmade gifts that come from the heart. A thoughtful, homemade present not only saves money but also shows your loved ones how much you care. One of my favorite gifts to make during December is Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar. It’s simple, customizable, and always appreciated on chilly winter days.
Handmade gifts are fun to make and very enjoyable to give!
Homemade Hot Cocoa Mix in a Jar
This creamy, rich hot cocoa mix is perfect for gifting during the holidays. It’s easy to make in bulk, can be tailored with add-ins, and looks adorable in a mason jar topped with a reversible jar bonnet.
Ingredients straight out of the pantry. Links to ingredients from Amazon below. I’ll admit, I love having ingredients come to my door during this busy season. I just put in an order for powdered sugar, chocolate chips and cocoa powder.
Ingredients (makes about 4 cups of mix)
2 cups powdered milk
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup powdered sugar
½ cup mini chocolate chips
½ cup mini marshmallows
¼ tsp salt
Optional Add-ins: Crushed peppermint candies, cinnamon, or a dash of vanilla powder
Ready to place in a jar.
Instructions
In a large bowl, whisk together the powdered milk, cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt until well combined.
Layer the mix into a mason jar:
Start with the cocoa mix.
Add mini chocolate chips.
Top with mini marshmallows.
Seal the jar tightly and decorate with a festive ribbon, twine or jar bonnet.
Layers in a quart mason jar.
Gift Tag Instructions
Include a small tag with these directions for the recipient:

This hot cocoa mix pairs perfectly with other handmade gifts, like knitted mug cozies, a batch of homemade cookies, or a jar of marshmallow fluff or homemade jam. I’ll be sharing more simple, heartfelt gift ideas throughout the month, so stay tuned for more inspiration!
